About Charles
I think education is truly priceless. I love to learn, it's one of the greatest gifts we have. When I was younger I had my struggles with school, it took some introspection to finally make the changes necessary for academic success. I was really lucky to have a passionate, patient, and engaging teacher who helped me see that I was capable of some truly great things. That was my first Chinese teacher. I finally saw school not as something that I had to do, but something I wanted to do. He started me on this path, and I have been on this path for almost two decades. It is my life now. Learning Chinese has opened up so many doors for me, not just in academics but in life as well. I am a happier person because of it.
Because of this, I felt a calling to get into education. I hope I can inspire my students the same way my Chinese teacher did. There is nothing more satisfying than passing on what you know to help others, and to see them not just listen, but understand. It is a truly rewarding experience.
I approach teaching with the same dedication as I have my studies. I see my students' success as my success, teaching is not top-down but a collaborative experience. We learn together.

I have classroom experience teaching students of all ages, having taught ESL in China for 3 years. What sets me apart is that I also started from zero. I believe this not only helps me understand the difficulties my students are facing, but also how to overcome these difficulties and achieve success. My personal philosophy is that while memorizing vocabulary is important, actual conversation is the ultimate goal. My class will focus on conversation first, and use this as a vehicle to grow vocabulary. At the end of the day, the goal is to be confident using the language.
I also have unique insight into Chinese culture, coming both from my education and experience living in China and interacting with all sorts of people. Whether my students are primary school age and just curious about China, or are professionals looking to successfully conduct business abroad, I am more than happy to share my expertise on this front.
I think above all, I am still a student myself. I am strongly of the opinion that people should be lifelong learners, and I have dedicated myself to perfecting these skills. I hope my students will also find inspiration and self-worth in the study of another culture and language. I believe it is one of the most valuable skills a person can have.
