About Caitlin

I've been passionate about the Japanese language since I was 5 years old when began studying it as a compulsory subject at school. I fell in love with the concept of communicating in a whole new language. The further I dove into the language, the more I came to love the culture too. My teacher would show us Studio Ghibli movie and old Japanese anime such as Kimba the White Lion. I learnt to sing songs such as Sukiyaki and dance the Soran Bushi.

As I got older, I realised Japan was always going to be a part of my life and I decided to take my studies further at university. I went on a 1 month study trip with Adelaide University and decided that my goal would be to spend more time there working long-term. In 2021 I set off on the JET program and spent a whole year teaching English to Japanese elementary and junior high students. I learnt so much from my time there and am so thankful for the language knowledge I took with me - without it I never would've made as many deep connections or been able to experience the unique things usually only open to Japanese people.

I'm now looking for work as a full-time Japanese teacher, but want to tutor in the meantime. I'm keen to share my knowledge and to support others in their Japanese journey.

About the lesson

I'm looking to tutor anyone with an interest in Japan and Japanese culture. No matter your reason for learning the language, I want to support you in your journey.

My lessons can be tailored to your individual needs. I am open to teaching the basics such as hiragana and greetings, all the way up to more difficult situations such as navigating life in Japan or passing a year 12 exam.

I do ask that students put in effort to study/interact with the language outside of lessons, as it will speed up your learning and waste less of both of our time (and not to mention your money!).

Generally, I will begin the lesson with a recap and review before delving into new concepts and activities. I'm open to feedback and will ensure each lesson fits each individual!
