About James

I am a composer working mainly on music for the theatre and installations. Currently, I am based in Edinburgh after graduating form the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I have taught composition, music theory and drums for 4 years, offering tuition up to Grade 8 ABRSM level as well as guiding students through compositional techniques to help them attain their personal musical goals. As a composer my credits include work at the National Theatre, Barbican, Royal Scottish Conservatoire, Edinburgh Fringe and more.

About the lesson

In this series of lessons students can expect a tailored experience centred around their chosen DAW, taught by a Guildhall School of Music and Drama Graduate. Topics covered would range from beginner to advanced and would include

- Basic Navigation and Workflow
- Creative and Production FX (Compression, EQ, Delay, Reverb)
- Synthesis (digital or analogue if student owns outboard)
- Looping and Sequencing (mainly applicable to Ableton 11)
- Mixing and Mastering
- Creative Strategies for Electronic Music Production

Currently I am unable to offer in person tuition but have a reduced price for virtual sessions.

I believe the joy of music should be central to all musical education and in my lessons I will always aim to maintain your love of your music whilst providing you with the knowledge to progress your musicianship and creative strategies.
