About Carys
My name is Carys Sutherland, and I currently serve as Principal Horn of Symphony Nova Scotia in Canada. I've been trained at the Juilliard School and Interlochen Arts Academy, and I've performed at Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Besides primarily being a French horn player, I enjoy doing historical performance on Baroque horn and writing program notes for various concerts.

I am a Juilliard-trained professional musician who's played at Carnegie Hall and Boston Symphony Hall, and I'm available to teach you French horn, music theory and music history!
I believe strongly in the emotional, social and cognitive benefits of studying music. Music should be fun, stimulating and at your own pace, which is how I structure my lessons. My pedagogy training prepares me to help you achieve your goals on the horn , and my experience as a teaching fellow in the MAP program at Juilliard has trained me to work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
Additionally, as a program notes writer, I'm ready and excited to teach you anything you want to know about classical music history or ethnomusicology!
