About June
June Cavlan is a vocalist, arranger, and teacher from Santa Cruz, California who is graduating from the Frost School of Music, University of Miami with a degree in Jazz Vocal Performance. She is attending The Manhattan School of Music in fall, 2023 to work towards her M.M. in Jazz Performance.
June has a diverse music background with experience in classical voice, french horn performance, musical theater, classical piano performance, jazz vocal group singing, and more. In high school, she became serious about jazz music and decided to pursue it further. Going forward, she won Downbeat awards for her group singing and was a Youngarts Winner as a solo vocalist. In 2022, The Downbeat Student Awards named her Best Undergraduate Jazz Vocalist.
At the age of 17, June started a very successful business as a vocal and piano teacher with over 30 students in her studio. She’s taught ages 4-85 and has close connections with all of her students. In regards to her vocal lessons, George M. said “I saw major improvements in my technique and tone quality after taking lessons with June Cavlan, and it reignited that spark I once had for singing”. Gabi T. was a hard-working high school choir singer who said “after every lesson, I left learning something new on how to improve and would be eager to go home and apply that to my practice”.

My lessons are all about balance. I always try to take the student's passions and turn them into lessons. We do a mix of repertoire I recommend and the repertoire the students request. My lessons have a big emphasis on music appreciation and history as well. I use theory books for most of my younger students. I also utilize my notation software to make my own worksheets and homework assignments. I do a big emphasis on ear training as well. All of that is taught from my own lesson planning, not from a book or software/website.
