About Samson
Hi, I'm Samson. Over the years I've noticed that the students who go furthest at the piano usually aren't the most naturally gifted — they're the ones who actually enjoy their lessons. So with younger students especially, protecting that enjoyment is close to my top priority, even above technical progress.
Piano has a special place in my teaching because it rewards a young student so visibly and so quickly — within a lesson or two, a child can play something that sounds like real music, and that feeling of "I can actually do this" is worth its weight in gold for keeping a kid motivated.
I also treat parents as real partners in this, not bystanders. I try to explain, in plain terms, what we're working on and why, and I'm always glad to answer a quick question about how things are going. A little encouragement at home makes a real difference, and I never want a parent to feel like they need special training to support their child.
If your child is drawn to the piano, or you're not sure yet but want to give them the chance to find out, I'd love to help make that first stretch a genuinely joyful one.

The piano can look a little intimidating to a young student — all those keys, all those notes — so my first priority is making it feel friendly rather than overwhelming. We start small: one hand, a few notes, a tune they already recognize. There's something wonderful about the moment a child realizes they just played something real, and I like to get them to that moment as quickly as I can.
From there, progress happens in bite-sized pieces. Reading music, coordinating both hands, developing a comfortable touch — each one gets its own patient, unhurried attention, and nothing gets piled on before a student is ready for it. I keep a close eye on frustration and back off the moment I see it building, because a discouraged child learns far less than a happy one, no matter how correct the lesson plan is.
Parents are part of the process too. I like to send home a simple, specific note after each lesson — not a long list, just one or two things to try — because vague instructions like "practice more" rarely help anyone, and a clear, small target is something a family can actually act on together.
More than anything, I want a child's first experience at the piano to be a genuinely happy one. Music can be a lifelong companion when it starts on the right foot, and getting that foundation right matters more to me than speed.
