• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  My interest in Law began when I studied BTEC Law at college. Before starting the course, I actually had no intention of going to university, but that class completely changed my mind. I loved learning about the law, understanding how it operates in real-life situations and being able to discuss different perspectives on legal issues.
  
  That experience ultimately inspired me to continue my studies at the University of Reading, where I went on to study MLaw, an integrated Master's degree in Law.
  
  My interest in tutoring developed alongside my university studies. I realised that I genuinely enjoyed helping other students understand topics they were struggling with and finding different ways to explain complicated concepts. Since then, tutoring and mentoring have become a significant part of my university experience, and I have found teaching to be incredibly rewarding.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students.

  Throughout university, I have had the opportunity to study a wide variety of areas of Law. Some of my favourite modules have been Land Law, Employment Law, and Equity and Trusts.
  
  I also particularly enjoyed completing my legal research project, which focused on the ongoing Assisted Dying Bill in Parliament. It gave me the opportunity to explore an evolving area of law and consider the legal, ethical and social arguments surrounding an incredibly complex issue.
  
  This year, I am especially looking forward to studying Family Law, Medical Law and Jurisprudence, as these areas closely align with my interests and future career aspirations.
  
  When tutoring, I particularly enjoy teaching Contract Law, Criminal Law and English Legal Systems. I enjoy teaching subjects that can initially seem complicated and breaking them down into clear, manageable concepts. Alongside teaching the law itself, I like helping students develop their exam technique, essay writing, coursework preparation and ability to apply case law effectively.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  My Year 10 and 11 English teacher, Miss Clark, has always been a huge inspiration to me. She was one of the kindest and most attentive teachers I have ever had, and she made a lasting impression on the way I view teaching.
  
  What stood out to me was how much she genuinely cared about her students. She was patient, approachable and always willing to give additional support when somebody needed it. She made her students feel listened to rather than simply taught.
  
  Her approach has inspired the kind of tutor I want to be. I want my students to know that I genuinely care about their progress and that they can ask questions, make mistakes and learn at their own pace without feeling judged.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  I believe a great tutor needs to be patient, adaptable, approachable and, most importantly, able to recognise that every student learns differently.
  
  In my own tutoring, I work with A-Level, BTEC and undergraduate students across key legal subjects. I tailor my lessons to each individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. This can involve simplifying complex legal concepts, developing revision strategies, practising exam technique, applying case law or improving coursework and essay preparation.
  
  I also have experience supporting students with additional educational needs, including ADHD and dyslexia. This has reinforced how important flexibility and inclusivity are within teaching. Something that works brilliantly for one student may not work for another, so a good tutor needs to listen to their student and adapt accordingly.
  
  Above all, I think a tutor should build confidence. My aim is not simply to help a student achieve a better mark on their next assignment, but to give them skills and confidence that they can continue using independently.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I actually found both school and college very challenging, which is something I think has made me a more understanding tutor today.
  
  If there is one thing I would want my students to take from my own experience, it is that where you start does not determine where you will finish. There was a time when I had no intention of attending university at all. Finding a subject I genuinely loved, combined with perseverance and determination, completely changed the direction I saw my life taking.
  
  I went from not planning to attend university to studying Law at Master's level. That experience taught me not to underestimate what you are capable of achieving.
  
  This is something I try to remind my students of when they are struggling. A difficult topic, disappointing grade or lack of confidence does not define your ability. With the right support, determination and willingness to keep trying, you can achieve far more than you might initially think.

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  One challenge I faced when studying Law was learning how to manage the huge amount of reading involved and, more importantly, how to identify which information was actually valuable.
  
  When you first begin studying Law, it can be tempting to read everything and make notes on everything. I found that learning how to select reliable academic sources, identify the strongest arguments and determine which topics deserved the most attention was a skill that took time to develop.
  
  As I progressed through university, I became much better at researching strategically and distinguishing between information that was interesting and information that would genuinely strengthen an essay or legal argument.
  
  Having experienced that difficulty myself is now particularly useful when tutoring. I can help students approach research more efficiently, evaluate their sources and focus their time on the material that will have the greatest impact on their work.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I absolutely adore teaching. There is something incredibly rewarding about watching a student go from feeling confused or lacking confidence to understanding a topic and realising that they are capable of doing it.
  
  I particularly enjoy the personal side of tutoring. Every student has different strengths, challenges and ambitions, and I love finding the approach that works for that individual. Seeing a student's confidence grow over time is one of my favourite parts of the job.
  
  Law itself is also a huge passion of mine. In the future, I hope to qualify as a solicitor and practise within either Family Law or Medical Law. Both areas particularly interest me because of the significant impact the law can have on people's lives during extremely important and often difficult circumstances.

• 8) What makes you a Superprof?

  I believe what makes me a Superprof is that I combine my academic knowledge of Law with genuine teaching and mentoring experience, while always keeping the individual student at the centre of my lessons.
  
  As a Law tutor, I work one-to-one with A-Level, BTEC and undergraduate students. I create personalised lessons designed around each student's goals, whether they need help understanding a difficult topic, preparing for an exam, applying case law, improving an essay or simply rebuilding their confidence.
  
  My experience extends beyond private tutoring. At university, I have taken on a number of student-facing roles, including working as a PAL Leader, Study Smart Mentor and STaR Mentor. These experiences have given me the opportunity to support students from a wide variety of backgrounds and have strengthened my communication, organisation and mentoring skills.
  
  I also have experience supporting students with additional educational needs, including ADHD and dyslexia, which has taught me the importance of making learning accessible and adapting my approach to the person sitting in front of me.
  
  Perhaps most importantly, I understand what it feels like to struggle academically. My own educational journey wasn't always straightforward, and I never expected that I would eventually be studying Law at Master's level and tutoring other students in the subject.
  
  Because of that, I don't expect my students to arrive knowing everything or feeling completely confident. That's what tutoring is for. I want my lessons to be a friendly, supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and challenging themselves.
  
  For me, being a great tutor isn't just about teaching Law, it's about helping students realise what they are capable of achieving.
