About Martha
Born in the United States, I am a university graduate who has lived in four countries. A former Assistant Director in the Australian federal public service, since retiring I have taught Diploma of Government and Conversational English to adults from a wide variety of backgrounds.

I like to focus on using language in real settings or in simulations of real-life. I like to use props so that vocabulary is linked to more senses than just hearing: touch, taste, smell. This reinforces retention.
I can customise lessons to meet particular needs such as practice for job interviews, a visit to the dentist or how to use public transport. I also focus on getting the flow of the language correct, using contractions and idioms, rather than participants learning tilted "broken English".
