About Yusaku

My name is Yusaku. I grew up in Kyushu and worked in Tokyo. I also have study abroad experience in Berlin, and I currently live in London.
I studied pharmaceutical sciences at one of Japan’s top universities and earned a master’s degree. During university, I conducted medical-related experiments and wrote academic papers. I also have seven years of experience working in the Japanese pharmaceutical industry.
My hobbies are reading manga and playing video games! I especially enjoy playing games like Pokémon and Genshin Impact. I’d love to hear about your hobbies during our lessons too!

About the lesson

As a Japanese language tutor, I have experience teaching a wide range of students, from elementary school children to working adults.
I always strive to explain things clearly and patiently, providing instruction tailored to each student’s level.
I also have extensive experience in preparing students for Japanese language exams, including grammar explanations, listening practice, and reading comprehension.
In addition, I am well-versed in teaching business Japanese, including the proper use of keigo (polite language).
Furthermore, I offer practical lessons based on students’ goals, such as basic phrases for travel and daily conversation practice.

don't worry — let's work together to move forward!
In the initial trial lesson, I will first ask about your learning goals and work with you to find the most effective learning method. If you have any preferred materials or specific requests, I can tailor the lessons accordingly.
If you don’t have a specific preference, you’re welcome to choose one of the following learning plans.

• Standard Course:
We will use the textbook GENKI to build a solid foundation in Japanese. You’ll improve your overall Japanese ability by training all four skills—reading, listening, writing, and speaking—in a balanced manner. Starting from zero, you can expect to be able to have basic conversations with native speakers within about one year. Completing both GENKI I and II will prepare you to reach approximately JLPT N4 level.
Recommended for:
– Complete beginners
– Those who want to work or study in Japan in the future
– Those planning to move to Japan someday
– Those who have enough time before traveling to Japan
– Learners aiming to pass JLPT N5 or N4

• Intensive Course:
We will use materials such as Marugoto, Irodori, and online resources to focus on useful vocabulary and phrases in a short period of time.
Recommended for:
– Beginners who are traveling to Japan soon
– Learners who prefer to skip learning scripts (hiragana, katakana, kanji) and focus only on practical words and phrases

• Conversation Course:
You can talk about topics of your choice. I will correct mistakes and introduce more natural expressions during the conversation to help improve your speaking skills. If you’re not sure what to talk about, we can read and discuss a news article appropriate for your level.
Recommended for:
– Learners who can already hold a basic conversation and want to improve fluency and naturalness in expression

• JLPT Preparation Course:
We will work on slightly challenging questions using JLPT prep books and websites and go over the answers together. You will also be assigned homework with questions at or just below your current level to reinforce your basic knowledge.
Recommended for:
– Learners who are planning to take the JLPT
– For complete beginners, I recommend starting with the Standard Course using a textbook

Please note that the fee for in-person lessons varies significantly depending on travel costs and the time required.
