Normally, for beginners I will start with basic Mandarin Alphabets and using the Pinyin method to assist my students to pronounce correctly. Also I provide simple vocabularies and greetings for a start. For intermediate and advanced students I always conduct the lesson to be active, having students to come out of the classroom and interact and discuss topics in Mandarin using some media or other pictures or articles to support learning process.
My name is Felipe Hsu, my Mandarin name is Hsu Hong Jia, I was born in Taiwan and my native language is Mandarin. I have taken the TCSL course before in Taiwan at the Chinese Culture University in Taipei, and obtained a Certificate of TCSL. (Teaching Chinese As Second Language)
I met Hong-jia in 2013 while we were in a Language Exchange group discussing about cultural differences in Latin America. What surprised me the most about him was that even though he grew up learning different languages at the same time, he was able to structure his ideas and communicate effectively.
I have no doubt that beginner and intermediate level students will benefit from his own experience as a learner and use it to feel motivated to reach their goals.
For advanced learners, the benefit would be learning more about cultural issues, understanding idiosyncrasies and the ability to convey ideas for more specific topics.
