About Philip
I began learning fiddle at age 31 and made rapid progress: (concealed information)
I want to make beautiful music that evokes genuine feeling in the player and listener. I believe this is possible very early on in the learning journey and my goal in teaching is to help students discover this.

My approach is to focus on being relaxed, internalize the music and rhythm, and to play with freedom and feeling -- and I go deep in the specifics of how to practice these. I have spent very little time doing anything boring; the entire learning process can be a deeply satisfying experience in the moment.
Many of my students have told me that my teaching opened their eyes to a new perspective on learning the fiddle and they came away excited and made noticeable progress from just one lesson.
Likely, most of what we cover in our first lesson will be quite different from what you get with other fiddle or violin teachers; a lesson with me will complement and add to your current learning process.
