Your lessons will follow an intuitive path, each stage building on the last. Lessons 1-3 can be online or in-person. Lessons 4-6 are in-person:

Lesson 1. - Film camera fundamentals: Types of cameras(SLR, TLR, rangefinders), how a mechanical camera works, exposure control, light metering, plus accessories and basic care.

Lesson 2. - Understanding film: 35mm versus medium format, negative vs positive film, box speed/ISO, and how to choose a stock for the situation and look you're after.

Lesson 3. - Film vs digital: What's actually different (grain vs noise, dynamic range, metering), and why that should change how you shoot, not just what you shoot on.

Lesson 4. - Shooting film: Metering for negative vs slide film, bracketing, reciprocity. Composition and shooting technique, drawn from my own documentary and street photography practice, run through this lesson.

Lesson 5. - Developing: Film development basics, BW developer types (e.g. Rodinal, D-76/ID-11, HC-110, Ilfosol), and how developer, time, temperature, and agitation affects your negatives.

Lesson 6. - Scanning: We finish with digitising your film to a genuinely archival standard. Together we will cover flatbed vs dedicated film scanners vs camera capture, getting a clean and accurate digital file from a negative.
