Super tutor

Anna is one of our best German tutors. High-quality profile, verified qualifications, a quick response time, and great reviews from students!

About Anna

I teach Standard German ages 4+. I use a wide range of age and level appropriate material (engaging stories, articles etc.) .

My lessons and the material I provide align with the CEFR (A1-C2) system.

Standardized testing preparation A1-C1
Goethe Certificate
TestDaf
Telc

Conversational German practice (A1-C1) with
mock conversations (introductions, ordering food, asking for directions…)

Tricky grammar - Don’t fear the Akkusative and Dative ! There is no way around it and it’s going to be ok :-).

I practice nuanced speech at all levels:
Practice using particles like doch, ja, aber,.... to modify mood.
Das ist doch schön, oder?
Du bist ja wieder zu spät!
Das geht so aber gar nicht!

I am a native German speaker and speak three other languages (English, French, and Polish). I earned my Master's degree from University Claude-Bernard in France. In addition, I earned my Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan and Technical University of Munich in Germany. I instructed undergrad students in biochemistry. Next, I obtained a German/English and English/German certificate in translations from Georgia State University. As a tutor, I also assist students with their homework and prepare them for tests. In the past, I have worked with adults, college, high school, and middle school students as well as children as young as 4 years old.

About the lesson

I am a native German speaker and I teach German online and in person. I use an entertaining storybook series that has been written in German for English native speakers (beginners as well as advanced students) to introduce new vocabulary and grammar. Depending on your background, I will add grammar theory and exercises as needed. My teaching style is flexible and your input is very welcome! Don’t hesitate to suggest a topic of your interest. I have covered many different topics upon request such as the news, music, and human anatomy. I also assist students with their assignments, prepare them for tests, and help them improve their grades. I aim to quickly identify what the student is struggling with, and look for alternative ways to explain the topic. I can also provide all teaching material.

Perfect! Just had my first class with Anna. I was nervous because it’s my first time using this platform. Anna was kind and patient. Excited to learn more German with her!

Perfect! I just completed my first lesson with Anna. It went very well. Anna took time to assess my current skills and to ask about my priorities in taking classes with her. She listened and was very patient. I especially appreciate the follow-up attachments and homework assignment she sent, both of which build on the skills we covered today. I’ve already scheduled my next lesson. Excellent tutor!

Perfect! I highly recommend Anna to learn German —her lessons were an enjoyable way to quickly learn a challenging language. She showed me the key pronunciation tricks that made everything feel practical and easy to apply, so every lesson felt personalized, engaging, and surprisingly fun.

Perfect! Anna is amazing! She's been teaching my two girls (ages 13 and 10) German for about a year now. She is patient, kind, and tailors her lessons very appropriately to each of them, depending on their speed of learning and their interests. She is also flexible when we have a conflict or someone ends up being sick. She is reliable, has a great sense of humor, and has taught the girls so much that they can now actually talk with their German cousins and other relatives in German!

Perfect! I highly recommend Anna as a German language tutor. Our 11-year-old son has been receiving lessons from Anna for a few months now, and we are very happy with his growth. Our expectation was to get him familiar with the German language, which is an important part of his heritage, and then to build up fluency. Anna is a native speaker and has been very patient, engaging, and persistent with our son, who went from a beginner who essentially knew no German words to now building foundational speaking skills. The best part is that our son is very proud of his progress, and we are excited to see his continuing enthusiasm.

Anna's response
It was nice to meet you Reagan. You're speaking and listening/comprehension capabilities are at a high level. I would probably put your vocabulary at a high A2/B1. We will need to review some grammar chapters more intensely (e.g. the cases) though and catch u a little. You will hear from me by the end of the day or by tomorrow morning. Really looking forward to work with you. Leave me a review if you have time.

Anna is really flexible for setting up times for sessions. She also provides great insight as a native speaker of what sounds most natural and connotation of certain words, something that you can't find online. Would highly recommend!

Anna has been my German instructor for the past 2 years. She works with me on my comprehension, written and verbal skills in the German language. She is constantly striving to push me to the next level of language acquisition. As a French linguist myself, I am amazed at how Anna, who speaks four languages, navigates the intricacies of the German language with such ease. Each time we meet, it is quite apparent that Anna has thoroughly researched and prepared the lesson in advance. She is an excellent German language instructor!!

Anna is a great tutor, every lesson with her reveals nuances and usages of German that I wouldn't know without such an intelligent and well-traveled polyglot by my side. I am looking forward to using my language skills and being a more independent learner, but I could not have gained my own level of understanding without Anna's help. I enjoy that we have a conversational format, but Anna brings up grammar and reference materials when I don't even realize that I need it. She is very well-prepared every time and able to help you improve regardless of your skill level.
