About Sarah
Hello! My name is Sarah and I'm a professional illustrator and surface pattern designer. I have a PGCE in Art and Design and create illustrations both digitally and with traditional media such as watercolours. If you are wanting to improve your drawing skills and take a leap into digital art I can teach you how to create colourful illustrations in your chosen style. I have been keeping sketchbooks from a young age and this is where I gather inspiration for my illustrations and surface pattern designs. Therefore I can help you develop a daily sketchbook habit by teaching you techniques to get over artist's block and provide prompts to help you develop your artistic voice. My style of illustration is colourful and fun and I currently sell a range of art prints, greeting cards and stickers through my Etsy and Folksy stores. I also use Print on Demand websites such as Redbubble and Society6, so if you are looking to expand your art into a range of products I can help you do this. I also work with my husband who is a graphic designer on branding projects where I create illustrations for logos, packaging and websites. This has also included working on surface pattern designs for a fashion accessories company. Before becoming a full-time illustrator I worked as a freelance embroidery artist providing embroidered illustrations. I am also a published author and have published an embroidery book called The Needlecraft Style Directory in 2012. Qualifications BA (hons) Embroidery - Manchester Metropolitan University. PGCE Further, Higher and Adult Education, Art and Design - Bolton University. My artwork has been featured in various publications and magazines.

I'm a qualified art teacher and teach digital illustration using the app Procreate. I welcome all drawing levels and abilities, all you need is an iPad, Apple Pencil and Procreate to get started in creating colourful illustrations for editorial, greetings, homewares and fashion accessories. What to expect in a lesson: If you are new to Procreate I will teach you the basics of Procreate from using layers, layer masks, selection tools, adjustment tools, how to create your own stamp brushes, set up colour palettes and how to set up a document with the correct artboard size and resolution and how to save your artwork files for use in print on demand websites such as Redbubble and Society6. More advanced techniques include transferring traditional artwork into digital art, creating patterns within Procreate and also sharing your artwork as Adobe Photoshop files to create patterns in Adobe Photoshop using Smart Objects. I can tailor lessons around students' needs and level of experience and the first lesson is free. This is usually a 30 minute get to know you lesson so that I can best decide on how many lessons you will need and so I can structure your lessons. Lessons will be typically 1 hour long via Google Meet or Zoom but can be longer if required. Lessons are fun and relaxed and I will help you to create the artwork of your dreams whether that is to share with friends and family or for profit. I look forward to seeing you!
