About Tomoko

Hello, I'm Tomoko. I'm from Nagano, Japan, and I've been living in Canada for 15 years.

Qualification: I have completed a Japanese Language Teacher Training Course and have 5+ years of teaching experience. I am also currently teaching Japanese online to students.

I love meeting new people and sharing our experiences, interests, and anything else that makes learning together fun! I'm passionate about exploring new cultures, languages, and meeting new people. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new places (20+ countries), visiting national parks, hiking, and baking bread. I believe that by communicating in Japanese, you'll connect with locals and gain a deeper understanding of the culture. I am looking forward to meeting you and let'e improve Japanese together!

About the lesson

Whether you’re just starting with hiragana and katakana, or you want to speak more naturally in everyday situations, my lessons are designed to help you progress step by step with confidence.

I primarily use the Japanese textbooks Genki I and Genki II, along with other supplementary materials, to help you build a strong foundation in grammar and develop real conversation skills. You’ll learn not only correct Japanese, but also how to use it in real life—when to be polite, when to be casual, and how to sound more natural.

Genki I covers beginner-level topics, from kana to adjective and verb constructions, while Genki II continues with intermediate-level material.
We'll practice formal and casual speaking together, building on what you've learned!

Lesson Flow:
Warm-up: Quick conversation and review
New Lesson: Introducing new grammar and vocabulary with examples
Activities: Engaging in activities to reinforce learning
Review and Feedback: Summarizing and answering questions

If you’ve ever wanted to:
・Introduce yourself smoothly in Japanese
・Travel to Japan and speak with confidence
・Watch movies and TV shows without subtitles
・Or simply enjoy learning Japanese in a supportive, friendly environment

…then I’d love to help you get there!
Speaking multiple languages opens doors to new opportunities, people, and cultures! Let me help you deepen your understanding of Japan.
