About Xuemei
I am an experienced educator with more than 10 years of teaching experience in public schools and extensive experience working with students of different ages, backgrounds, and learning needs. In addition to my teaching career, I spent over 10 years working in the newspaper industry in China, which strengthened my communication, writing, and cross-cultural skills.
As a Mandarin Chinese teacher and tutor, I am passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve their language-learning goals. I create supportive, engaging, and well-structured lessons tailored to each student's needs and learning style. My professional experience in both education and media allows me to bring real-world language and cultural insights into my lessons, making learning meaningful, practical, and enjoyable.

My approach to teaching Mandarin Chinese is student-centered, interactive, and focused on real communication. I work with beginners through intermediate learners, including children, teens, and adults who want to build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Chinese.
In a typical lesson, students learn new vocabulary and language structures through pictures, gestures, storytelling, role-plays, and Total Physical Response (TPR) activities. We practice the language through meaningful real-life tasks and conversations so students can immediately apply what they learn. Key concepts are revisited through different activities, providing the repetition needed for long-term retention while keeping lessons fresh and engaging.
What sets me apart is my experience as a Mandarin Chinese educator and my ability to scaffold instruction for different learning needs. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, provide plenty of support and encouragement, and create a positive learning environment where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. My goal is not only to help students learn Mandarin but also to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a love of language learning.
