About Peter

I have 3 years experience as a beginner piano, saxophone, and jazz improvisation instructor. I have played at venues across Chicago such as: Andy's Jazz Club, The Jazz Showcase, Sleeping Village, The Hideout, Golden Dagger, Fitzgerald's, and more! I also have experience working at different private teaching studios for all ages (children - adults)! In addition to teaching private lessons, I currently work as a K-8 general music teacher in CPS, 5-8th beginning band director, as well as the director of an adult community band. I love to teach music because it combines my two favorite things: music, and helping others. Since being at music school, I have also developed a love for pedagogy - I have a lot of fun figuring out the best way for my students to learn and how to best help them on their own musical journey. I also find that my own learning is never done and each student I teach always ends up showing me something or leading me down a road I haven’t been before. I am currently looking to add students to my summer studio.

About the lesson

I am experienced as a saxophonist, improviser, and with songwriting, recording, band leading, as well as booking shows. I began learning saxophone 14 years ago and have been working as a professional in Chicago's music scene since 2017. I am also a fun person who believes making music and learning music needs to be an enjoyable process, otherwise what is the point?! I am well versed in creating curriculum which matches my students specific individual interests/needs. No matter what you are interested in learning about, snag a lesson and I will do my best to help you reach your personal goals! Most lessons with beginners on saxophone will begin with developing these 4 main areas: Tone (sound production), Technique (music theory and execution on the instrument), Repertoire (what music you are interested in playing), and Listening (aural skills). From there we have plenty of room to shape each area to your personal interests and goals. Even if you are not a saxophonist, I have experience teaching songwriting, music theory, jazz theory, and jazz improvisation. I also have experience teaching beginning piano (I have played piano for 15 years now!), clarinet, and flute.
