About Richard
Hi,
I have been working as a DJ for over 8 years including venues on Sydney's Oxford St (Arq, Stonewall, Oxford Hotel, Flinders Hotel, Midnight Shift / Universal, Phoenix Bar / Exchange Hotel, Ivy Bar, etc - including a residency at Up Dayclub / Rise And Shine) as well as several international dance parties.
Have you ever dreamed of DJing in front of a large crowd and what that would feel like?
The answer is, that although it can be daunting and nerve-wracking getting up on stage, especially if it's your first time, you will quickly find that it's also one of the most rewarding and exhilarating feelings you will ever get.
Trust me - I know, as I've had to go through exactly those same feelings.
When I started out, there was no SYNC button on the CDJ, you had to beat match yourself.
It sounds difficult, but I can show you the shortcuts that I used to help make even a complete novice at beat matching, pick up the basics in only a couple of hours.
I have my own set of industry standard DJ equipment (2 x Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus and the DJM-900 Nexus mixer), which are used throughout the majority of night clubs around the world.
Learning on standard equipment, without the pressure of a big crowd, will give you a huge step up in your DJ career.
Most DJs typically DJ using USBs. And this whole process is now simplified with the use of Pioneer's Rekordbox which allows you to prepare all your music before an event, using your laptop or PC/Mac, and then export it to your USB, ready to plug into a CDJ.
I'll also show you how you can DJ with your laptop and connect it up to control the CDJs using the latest version of Traktor Pro 3
I'll show you how it all fits together, and get you up and DJing in no time.
All you need to do is decide whether you want to learn at home or come to me.
I can cater for you either way. And if you bring a few tracks on USB, I can show you how to get the most out of your music to produce a killer set

Let my passion for DJing and music in general, inspire you - and see how I went from absolutely "zero" knowledge of DJing to a resident DJ at Up Dayclub, followed by international gigs, all within a few short years. I can show you all the pitfalls and mistakes I made along the way and how to avoid them, which will help supercharge your learning curve.
I'll make DJing fun for you !!
And while my style of teaching can be used by anyone, you will find that I'm best suited for
** Students with little, or no experience of DJing**
will benefit the most
I'll show and explain to you
1) What all the controls/buttons/knobs, etc on a CDJ and mixer are, and how you use them to DJ
2) I'll show you how to Beat-match two tracks, quickly and easily and how to then mix between them
3) I'll show you various ways of DJing, including using tracks from USB, or a laptop
4) What harmonic mixing is and why it matters
5) How to increase or decrease the energy level of your mix, and how you can use that to control the emotions of the crowd you are DJing for
6) Why reading a crowd is important
7) How to prepare your music prior to a gig, using Pioneer's Rekordbox software and how you can use that to get the most out of your music and DJing
8) Show you some of the best tools out there to get the most out of your music and add value to your DJ career
9) Give you the basics on how to create your own mashups
10) Tips for DJing at clubs, so you know what to do and what NOT to do, so you can successfully take over from another DJ
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY
I'll inspire you on in your journey to becoming a successful DJ.
By taking away the mystery of how it all "works" and to help build your confidence, by showing you just how easy, fun and rewarding it is to DJ.
