My approach is to integrate theoretical concepts with real-world examples by use of case studies from my private practice. Therefore, the application of doctrinal concepts to practical commercial settings engages and empowers students to understand complex legal issues more effectively through the resolution of real legal problems. Accordingly, the learning environment becomes meaningful, enjoyable, and contextually relevant as it provides a basis of skills that can be adapted to the workplace.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in my field began at University and as a junior lawyer when I realised how much I enjoyed breaking down complex ideas for my colleagues. I started by helping friends prepare for exams, and I was impressed at how effective I was in assisting others. This has complimented my work as a lawyer as I often need to explain difficult concepts to clients.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach law and legal subjects . I encourage critical thinking through the use of problem-solving and case discussions. For example, the integration of real life scenarios and how they apply to theoretical legal concepts is an effective way for students to internalize what they are learning and remember it. This style really encourages senagamnt and skills development.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, one very kind former law professor who mentored me and helped me to appreciate the practical role that the learning of the law should take.. Their patience and enthusiasm showed me how much of a difference a great teacher can make.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A great tutor needs empathy, clarity, adaptability, and patience. The role of a tutor is akin to a mentor that must teach but also guide students through empathy and understanding. This often means knowing the learning style of the student and adapting to it so as to help them achieve and shine.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I recently taught a student who was failing consistently and had lost their confidence. We focused on conceptual understanding rather than just assessment tasks. Within two terms, they had improved significantly. That experience reminded me that good teaching can genuinely change someone's academic progress and confidence.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One challenge is bridging the gap between theory and real-world application. Many students struggle to see how a topic relates to the practice of law. Through the use of experiential learning techniques I am able to bring in real-life scenarios, sample documents and case studies to help students bridge the gap. It's an ongoing challenge, but a rewarding one.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My interest and passion about lifelong learning and helping students to reach their professional potential. Teaching is an effective method to assist students to reach their potential. Through my offer of work experience placements I am able to mentor and guide students to reach their very best.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

As a practicing lawyer and academic over 20 years I can provide a tailored and uniquely individual learning experience based on legal theory and its connection to proven legal practice. I offer practical placement in my law office which helps students to apply the law but also develops higher order critical thinking skills. This in turn boosts confidence, and creates a challenging and supportive environment
