Book private basketball coaching in Essendon

The Pareto Principle in basketball encourages players and coaches to prioritise the core actions that create the most impact in every match.

• Dribble penetration: the ability to drive to the basket generates scoring opportunities constantly — it's one of the most repeated actions in any game.
• Passing and cutting: learning to pass and cut effectively gives players a foundation that applies regardless of the play being run.
• Catch-and-shoot mechanics: perfecting your shooting form on catch-and-shoot situations means you're ready for the shots that come up most in games.
• Defensive positioning: staying in the correct defensive stance and keeping between your opponent and the basket prevents the majority of easy scoring chances.

Working with an experienced coach ensures your practice time is spent on what matters most, not just what feels comfortable.

A private basketball lesson in Essendon costs approximately $50/h.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• Your skill level and learning goals
• The coach's expertise and background
• The package you choose (one-off or regular)
• Where the sessions take place

Most coaches offer a trial lesson so you can assess their approach before committing.

Getting the basics right early creates good habits that carry through every stage of a player's development.

• Ball handling: confident dribbling with both hands gives players control of the ball in pressure situations and is the first skill worth drilling at any age.
• Shooting form: proper shooting technique starts with stance and balance, and a good tutor can correct small errors before they become ingrained habits.
• Footwork: understanding pivoting, the jump stop and how to create space without travelling gives players a significant advantage in one-on-one and team situations.
• Defensive stance: staying low, keeping your feet active and maintaining correct positioning between your opponent and the basket are the basics of individual defence.

With consistent practice and the right coaching, beginners often see meaningful improvement within just a few weeks.
