Find your design tutor in Chippendale

Graphic design can absolutely be self-taught, but it helps to follow a clear path rather than jumping between random tutorials.

• Learn the fundamentals first, including layout, colour theory, and typography, before touching any software.
• Practise with free tools like Canva or Figma to build real projects without a big upfront cost.
• Study real examples from brands you like, analysing their use of space, contrast, and hierarchy.
• Build a small portfolio early on, even with practice briefs, so you can track your progress over time.

A private tutor can speed things up by giving you feedback a YouTube video never will.

The average cost of graphic design lessons in Chippendale is around $47/h.

This rate depends on a few factors:

• Your current skill level and learning goals
• How qualified and experienced the tutor is
• The length and frequency of your lessons
• The lesson format, whether online, in person, or at the tutor's studio

Online lessons are often more affordable while still being just as effective.

Good graphic design usually comes down to a handful of core principles that guide every layout.

• Balance distributes visual weight evenly across a layout so nothing feels lopsided.
• Contrast uses differences in colour, size, or shape to make key elements stand out.
• Hierarchy organises content by importance, so viewers know where to look first.
• Alignment and repetition create consistency, tying separate elements together into one cohesive design.

A tutor can show you how these principles apply to your own projects in real time.
