Discover Mandarin Tutoring in Southbank

The best way to learn Chinese blends daily study with immersive listening and speaking.

• Master pinyin and tones first, since mispronouncing tones changes word meanings entirely.
• Flashcard apps help you retain vocabulary by showing words just before you forget them.
• Immerse yourself by watching Chinese dramas or listening to Mandarin podcasts.
• Speak from day one, even if you make mistakes—conversation practice accelerates fluency.

A private tutor can personalise your learning path, correct pronunciation in real time, and keep you accountable.

Private Mandarin tutoring in Southbank typically costs $34/h per session.

This rate varies depending on several factors:

• The student's level (complete beginner, intermediate, or advanced)
• Whether your teacher is a native speaker or certified instructor (native Mandarin speaker, formal teaching credentials)
• Lesson length and frequency (30-minute, 60-minute, or 90-minute sessions)
• How you take your lessons (online via video call, in-person at your home, or at the tutor's location)

Online lessons often cost less since there's no travel time for the tutor.

When two third tones appear in a row, the first one changes to a second tone.

Here's how it works: 你好 (nǐ hǎo, "hello") is written with two third tones, but spoken as "ní hǎo"—the first syllable rises like a second tone.

Understanding this rule helps your Mandarin sound natural rather than robotic or textbook-like.

Practising with a native speaker ensures you internalise tone sandhi without overthinking.
