Pianos are built around a 12-note pattern that spans the full instrument.

The 12 notes consist of C, C-sharp, D, D-sharp, E, F, F-sharp, G, G-sharp, A, A-sharp, and B.

• Each sharp note can also be named as a flat. The note between C and D can be called either C♯ or D♭.
• White keys and black keys alternate in groups.
• Each repetition places the notes in progressively higher or lower registers.

Understanding these 12 notes is essential for reading music and learning scales.

Most piano teachers in Belmont charge approximately $30/h per hour.

The cost varies depending on several factors:

• Your level of experience (novice, developing, proficient)
• The teacher's experience and qualifications (formal education, teaching experience, professional accomplishments)
• The session format and schedule of lessons
• The lesson type (virtual, in-person at your location, or at the teacher's premises)

Many teachers provide a free trial lesson, allowing you to evaluate compatibility before committing.

This concept means that strategic practice beats sheer practice time.

In practical terms, you focus on the sections or skills that accelerate learning.

• Spend more time on difficult bars or technical challenges.
• Build strong basics that transfer across all repertoire.
• Devote practice sessions to recent or upcoming music.

The 80/20 mindset transforms good practice into great practice.
