Find your typing tutor in Bateau Bay

Touch typing rests on foundational habits that unlock speed and accuracy.

• The home row: Your fingers always return to the home row keys — ASDF for the left hand and JKL; for the right. This anchor point is the foundation of every keystroke.
• Eyes off the keyboard: Looking away from the keyboard forces your fingers to develop the muscle memory that leads to real speed.
• Each finger has its own keys: Using the correct finger for each key reduces strain and makes your technique sustainable over long practice sessions.
• Accuracy before speed: Speed comes naturally once accuracy is solid. Rushing too early builds bad habits that are hard to unlearn.
• Ergonomic posture: Sitting straight with relaxed wrists and forearms parallel to the desk prevents fatigue and supports long typing sessions.

With these foundations in place, more advanced speed and accuracy become much easier to develop.

In Bateau Bay, expect to pay about $25/h for an hour of typing tuition.

Several factors influence the price:

• Your current level (complete beginner, intermediate, or returning to improve accuracy)
• The instructor's credentials and track record with students
• The number of hours booked in advance
• Where the sessions take place and how they are structured

Online typing lessons are often more affordable while remaining just as effective.

Here is how to approach learning touch typing independently for the best results.

• Begin with home row keys: Learn ASDF and JKL; before anything else. Once your fingers are comfortable there, gradually add new keys one row at a time.
• Short, frequent sessions: Aim for short daily sessions — your fingers and brain absorb the patterns best through regular repetition rather than marathon practice.
• Break the habit of looking: Use a cloth over your hands or blank keycaps to make looking down impossible — this accelerates muscle memory development significantly.
• Track your progress with typing tests: Regular typing tests show you where you are improving and where extra work is needed. Aim to lift your words-per-minute score steadily over time.

A private typing tutor can significantly speed up this process by providing personalised feedback from the very first session.
