Find your typing tutor in Port Macquarie

Touch typing rests on foundational habits that unlock speed and accuracy.

• The home row: Your fingers always return to the home row keys — ASDF for the left hand and JKL; for the right. This anchor point is the foundation of every keystroke.
• No looking at the keyboard: Resist the urge to glance down at the keys. Muscle memory, not sight, is what makes touch typing fast and fluent.
• Each finger has its own keys: Assigning each finger to its designated keys means your hands always know where to go without conscious thought.
• Accuracy before speed: Speed comes naturally once accuracy is solid. Rushing too early builds bad habits that are hard to unlearn.
• Upright posture and wrist position: Maintaining a neutral wrist position and keeping your eyes level with the screen makes touch typing comfortable for extended periods.

These principles unlock everything that comes next in your typing journey.

In Port Macquarie, expect to pay about $46/h for an hour of typing tuition.

Several factors influence the price:

• Your current level (complete beginner, intermediate, or returning to improve accuracy)
• The teacher's expertise and professional background
• The duration and frequency of lessons
• The teaching mode (in-person or video call)

Many tutors offer package discounts for booking multiple lessons upfront.

Here is how to approach learning touch typing independently for the best results.

• Begin with home row keys: Learn ASDF and JKL; before anything else. Once your fingers are comfortable there, gradually add new keys one row at a time.
• Practise little and often: Fifteen to thirty minutes of daily practice is far more effective than a single long session once a week. Consistency is everything.
• Break the habit of looking: Deliberately training yourself not to look at your hands is uncomfortable at first, but it is the most important habit to build.
• Track your progress with typing tests: Regular typing tests show you where you are improving and where extra work is needed. Aim to lift your words-per-minute score steadily over time.

Following this method consistently leads to rapid, noticeable improvement over just a few weeks.
