About Cait

I have been a student at a grammar school in Lincolnshire since 2012 and have completed my GCSE’s with three grade 8s (new GCSEs) in maths and English, five A*s (in chemistry, biology, physics, religious studies and French) and two As (in history and German). I began sixth form in 2017 and my targets for all of my subjects (chemistry, biology, history and maths) are A*s. I am hoping to study medicine at university and then further specialise in dermatology. I am aspiring to apply to Oxford later this year and I am also considering University College London, Imperial College London, Bristol University, Lancaster University and York.

I have also worked part time as a waitress in the local pub for 3 years and through this I have developed my confidence and communication skills drastically so I am well equipped to work with anyone.

I am also a Biology prefect at my school so have had experience in tutoring others in biology already.

I’m a very sociable person and enjoy communicating with people, especially when it involves helping people understand things as I find this incredibly rewarding. I would also like to think that I’m friendly and approachable.

I am just about to begin year 13 (upper sixth) so I am very aware of all the different methods of teaching that I have experienced throughout my school career.

I am also very aware of the things I find most effective and things that don’t work for me. While I am aware of the fact that these might not be everyone’s first choice, I do have a wide range of methods which I feel will suit everyone. For myself, the best way I learn is by repitition however this can be tedious and isn’t suited to everyone. Another way in which I would aim to tutor pupils and like being taught personally is by conversation and debate as this provokes deeper thoughts which are more likely to remain in memory and it can be quite enjoyable to present different ideas and listen to what people have to say.

Having studied my first year of A Levels I feel as though I’m very capable of tutoring students up to GCSE level in maths and biology. I am a Biology prefect at my school and so I have had experience tutoring students within school before.

My lessons would be mainly based around what the student would like to go over and learn. If I was told in advance about what they’d like me to go over I would prepare an interactive and enjoyable way of teaching the subject. At the start of the session I would engage in a conversation about the topic so the student could present the ideas they already have and also identify where they may need extra assistance. I would then further discuss these areas that the student needs extra help with in order to help them understand. I would then have pre prepared clear notes for the student with space for them to add more. There would also be an array of past examination questions which are specific to the topic that the student could attempt and I could assist with. At the end of the session there would then be a summary of what we had learnt and a discussion on what we could go over next time.

Personally, I’m very eager to learn and always have been. I am incredibly passionate about my subjects and would love to have the opportunity to inspire others and help with their understanding. I’m very friendly and encouraging and I would find it very rewarding if I had the opportunity to help others.
