About Lionel
Greetings! Playing the piano has been my hobby for over 20 years now: I've completed Grade 8 in both piano performance and music theory with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Growing up, I was lucky to have a supportive piano teacher who instilled in me a lifelong love for music, and I hope to pass this passion on to my students. In line with my classical training, some of my favourite music is by Debussy, though I also really enjoy playing/listening to music with strong jazz influences.

As I currently work full time as a university lecturer in biomedical engineering, I have years of experience in scaffolded teaching. Learning is most effective when there is two-way communication underpinning a strong teacher-learner rapport, and so I personalise my teaching based on students' different needs and learning styles. I have a keen passion for both teaching and music, and can think of no better feeling than to help my students grow and work towards their personal goals.
In-person lessons start from 60 minutes, and will generally include the development of foundational music skills and pieces of various styles as appropriate to the student's level/interest. Anyone who's an absolute beginner to the piano is welcome, with a preference for beginners in primary school/early secondary school. I have a Working With Children Check for younger learners.
