I generally teach students from basics, First I test their knowledge how much the student know about the topic then accrodingly I decide how to teach him and with what speed.
In between I also try to know what the student is best at, their capability,which subject he loves the most etc.
Also I guide him if he needs any kind of help like if he is demotivated over any issues overthinking etc.
