About Piao

I am a Chinese native speaker, born and grew up in Shanghai area.

I came to the US for graduate school at Rutgers, the New Jersey State University. My master degree is on Teaching Chinese As a Second Language.

I taught Chinese at Rutgers as a part-time lecturer for two years and started my 7 years' teaching journey at public schools.

Teaching has been fun for me. I've been always asking myself how to teach for effective learning.

I am members of language education associations. I also attended NCLC (National Chinese Language Conference) every year in the past 6 years.

About the lesson

Teach Chinese in 90% Chinese with comprehensible input.
I do this by teaching class survival expressions first.

The benefit of learning Chinese in Chinese is to get immersed and keep practising Chinese listening skills. You will see a big difference in the long run.

Chinese speaking & listening practice with most useful daily expressions, native speaker conversations.

Chinese reading & writing practice with language-levelled materials and natural materials.

A typical class includes Vocabulary Drill (Quizlet), Q&A sessions with me, Small projects (movie talk, retell a story, etc. )

Curriculum will be revised and customized depending on your language learning goals and your language levels.

E.g. If your goal is first to be able to speak Chinese, we will focus on speaking.

All levels are accepting students.
