About Shimei

- Qualification of DPSI (the highest qualification for professional interpreting and translation), to undertake interpreting/translation jobs across the UK

In China:
- Taught English to university students and PhD students at Wuhan University, China
- Undertook a wide rang of interpreting and translation work for the university , Chinese Government and local authorities.

In the UK:
- now, a teacher for Education & Children's Services, Aberdeenshire, covering a few schools across Aberdeenshire;
- since 2012 , have been an appointed SQA Principal Verifier and marker, for Cantonese and Mandarin Simplified & Traditional;
- until present, have been leading the centralized verification events for Performance-talking of N5 and Higher Mandarin and Cantonese and write verification reports;
- until present, have been producing Quality Verification Summary Report to guide centres in making assessments across different levels;
- until present, have been contributing to the SQA decisions over grade boundaries for different levels;
- until August 2023, taught Mandarin to pupils of different levels and ages for different organisations and schools: Aberdeen Chinese Women Association, Aberdeen University, Aberdeen Chinese School, Ellon Academy, Alford Academy, Albyn School and Carnoustie High School, from beginners to advanced levels across National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher - over 90% of my pupils got A, Band 1, across all levels;
- As a professional interpreter and translator, have undertaken a wide range of interpreting/translation work for Aberdeen University, NHS, Home Office, Police, Scottish Court Services and various councils including Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council.

About the lesson

- set up and agree on clear aims and objectives in taking private lessons at different stages, and support and help pupils in developing skills/knowledge with clear progress towards those aims/objectives;
- recap and retrieve while learning new materials all the way;
- plan, deliver and adapt each lesson to guarantee the steady progress and achievement;
- adopt a wide range of teaching approaches to meet the needs of individual pupils with different abilities, to steadily develop Mandarin skills/knowledge of four skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading & Writing;
- Use various and interesting teaching resources including adopted materials from books and websites as well as the self-devised teaching materials closely related to the real life, all within various contexts such as Society, Learning, Employability and Culture.
- take good care of each individual learners and engage them well in building up their interest and confidence;
- interact with learners properly before and during each lesson to understand any learning issues related to what has been covered;
- undertake and record formative/summative assessments at different times to inform further teaching/learning;
- give timely feedback focusing on achievements while encourage pupils' further progress and challenging pupils to reach their best potentials;
- communicate appropriately with pupils' parents/students regarding what has been achieved well and what can be improved further;
- summarize main learning points;
- set homework manageable to consolidate what has been covered;
- guide and advise learners how to undertake independent learning with various support and help.

Prefer to teach each private lesson at my own house, face-to-face, for £40 per hour or £20 half an hour, so as to achieve the best learning experience and outcomes of each learner;
Happy to teach a group of 2 - 5 students with similar ages and levels and with a fee agreed;
