Marielle - Brighton - Harp

Marielle has been our son's flute teacher for 8 years and much of the reason he has sustained his playing and progress is due to his lessons with her. She is joyful, honest, challenging, and has always treated him as a colleague. Her lessons balance rigour with light hearted humour.
He has always looked forward to his lessons with Marielle and has achieved his grades up to grade 8 with distinction. I have had the pleasure to sit in on some lessons, which have been impressive and exciting.

Marielle provides a fabulous mix of theoretical and practical teaching. Her enthusiasm for understanding the physical mechanisms of flute playing is infectious and stimulating. Alongside this she recognises the need to have fun and enjoy "just playing". I always thoroughly enjoy my lessons and wish I could do them more often!

Marielle is a fun, positive harp teacher and my daughter really enjoys her lessons. She also encourages her to explore different styles to develop her own creativity, which is a big plus.

Not having played for nearly thirty five years, I had my first lesson with Marielle in October 2014. I thoroughly enjoy my lessons and with her help and encouragement I now play in several local ensembles and I am working towards my grade 7 flute exam!

Marielle has always impressed me with her highly creative approach to flute teaching. Regular lessons with Marielle have given me a thorough grounding and I always leave with a sense of purpose and motivation. A hugely talented musician and flute player in her own right, Marielle has the rare ability to share her knowledge and enthusiasm not not just for the flute, but for music as a whole. I would not hesitate to recommend her as a teacher for children and adults alike.

Marielle has been a wonderful flute teacher for me. She is so encouraging and always finds ways to make me feel confident even when I struggle. She has a huge knowledge of music and is invaluable at helping me understand my pieces more deeply so that it enables me to play them with more confidence. Also she is methodical and breaks difficult things down into manageable tasks to build up skills. She is very patient and makes me feel like I have a talent.

Dear Marielle, I just wanted to say thank you for being such a great flute teacher. Your enthusiasm and love for music really inspired me to carry on playing the flute and I can safely say I don't think I would have joined BYO and still be playing my flute now if it wasn't for you! I will definitely take my flute to university and join the orchestra at the Royal Vet College!
