About Gus

Starting in 1990 I began training in Karate as a 10-year-old child after years of Martial Arts experience and 6 years spent working the doors in licensed venues on the Gold Coast QLD, I have developed my own approach to martial arts. My specialty areas include a weapons-based system of Filipino Arnis and Western Boxing and training children in skill development from the ages of 6 and 16. My passion is to help others through opening their eyes to the wonder and beauty of martial arts and I feel I have a solid toolkit for being able to help people on their way to better things, I consider myself a stepping stone for personal development.

My method of training is organic and flows with a purpose to achieve understanding of each technique shown in a safe manner in which the student may grasp the lesson as easily as possible without "giving away" the information, students must earn the knowledge. My very own LTWA (Learning How To Walk Again) Stickboxing program has been proven to help rehabilitate the mind and body whilst the student undergoes their own journey into the spirit. The MACCS System is designed to be a holistic system for better emotional, physical, and spiritual health and well-being. Based on the teaching of the Filipino Martial Arts of Arnis, Western boxing, and my experience in the roughest venues on the Gold Coast Queensland; I take my self-defense concepts and put them squarely in reality where it belongs; in the training grounds where I was a bouncer/doorman with direct physical violence thrust upon me every night of the week. Not a sterile dojo, not the octagon of ground and pound and submit, and not the ring with gloves, but in the streets where ultimately it all counts and anyone can become a very real potential threat and the cause of you not seeing your family again because you did not have a toolkit to call on in a time of need. The streets are where I learned what works for me while I honed my craft of self-preservation. Without the ability to take what we learn in a gym and apply it to a street encounter; all that training we have done is useless and we will get a reality call when someone stomps our head on a curb along with 3 of his or her mates. My ultimate goal is to spread the beauty of the Filipino fighting art known to most as Arnis also known as the art within the art. Why not join me on my journey to better myself as I guide you to find your own path from self-despair to self-worth? MACCS promotes personal safety, environmental awareness one can only gain from experiences in the streets, and a basic understanding of the human animal's mindset, most importantly though it allows you to look at your fear, your insecurities, your trauma and past and help give you the tools to keep pushing forward every day. Physical and mental health is at the forefront of our training and each student gets their program tailored to their own needs, after all, we are Learning how to walk again. So if you feel this is something you would be willing to discover, something different, something a bit unique and want to learn how to use improvised force multipliers to defend themselves and others and feel a need tugging at your chest to better yourself; why not reach out and see where the road takes us? Cheers, Gus Mac.
