About Mary

As a native Greek speaker, I offer a unique and enriching learning experience that blends my deep knowledge of language with my passion for teaching. With fluency in English, Russian, Bulgarian, and Spanish, and basic knowledge of German, Mandarin Chinese, Italian and French, I understand the challenges of learning a new language from a personal perspective. This polyglot background allows me to explain Greek in a way that is approachable for speakers of many different languages. I am able to teach Greek using English or other languages, such as Russian, Bulgarian or Spanish. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Russian Language and Literature and Slavic Studies from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as an Acting degree. Currently, I am based in Athens and I am pursuing a Master's degree in Creative Writing at the Hellenic Open University, which reflects my passion for language, storytelling, and the art of expression. My studies have not only been confined to Greece, but I’ve also expanded my academic and cultural horizons through international experiences, including an Erasmus exchange scholarship at the University of Sofia in Bulgaria and also studies at Beijing Language and Culture University in China. In addition to my academic background, my professional experience as a language tutor since 2019 has allowed me to develop effective teaching methods and build a strong rapport with students of all levels and cultural backgrounds. Moreover, my working experience not only in Greece, where I was born and raised, but also in the United States has significantly enhanced my teaching abilities. This exposure to such a wide range of perspectives and experiences allowed me to develop a more flexible and inclusive teaching approach. Teaching is not just my profession—it’s my passion. I am dedicated to sharing my knowledge and guiding students through their language-learning journey with patience, empathy, and professionalism. Whether you are just starting to learn Greek or looking to refine your skills, I tailor my lessons to meet your individual needs and goals, making the process both enjoyable and effective. With my diverse background, love for languages, and commitment to your success, I look forward to helping you achieve your language goals and unlock the beauty of Greek language and culture.

About the lesson

As a Greek language tutor, my approach is tailored to each student’s needs, preferences, and learning style. Teaching Method and Techniques: • Communicative Approach: I focus on developing real-life communication skills, encouraging students to use Greek in everyday contexts. This means speaking from the very first lesson, regardless of your level. • Interactive Learning: I combine traditional methods (grammar, vocabulary) with modern techniques, using multimedia resources, language games, and interactive exercises to keep learning engaging. • Focus on All Skills: I believe in balancing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. We’ll work on all four to ensure you become proficient in both casual and formal Greek. • Cultural Immersion: Since language is deeply tied to culture, I introduce cultural aspects of Greece to make lessons more relatable and enjoyable, including Greek history, traditions, songs, literature and current events. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor: • Native Speaker & Polyglot: As a native Greek speaker and polyglot, I have a deep understanding of the nuances of Greek, as well as how it compares to other languages. This helps me explain tricky concepts in a way that's easy to grasp. • Personalized Attention: I don’t follow a one-size-fits-all approach. I customize lessons based on your learning goals, whether you want to master conversational Greek, prepare for an exam, or deepen your understanding of Greek literature. • Philosophy & Language Expertise: As a philologist, I offer insights not just into the language, but also into its history, evolution, linguistics and rich literary tradition, which adds depth to the learning experience. Who the Lessons Are For: • Beginners to Advanced Learners: Whether you're starting from scratch or looking to perfect your fluency, I can adapt lessons to suit your current level. • Students, Professionals, Travelers, and Enthusiasts: Whether you are a language enthusiast and learn languages for pleasure or need Greek for academic purposes, work, or travel, I tailor the content to your goals. • Exam Preparation: I offer specialized lessons for students preparing for language proficiency exams or university-level Greek courses. Ultimately, my goal is to make learning Greek an enjoyable experience, one that leaves you feeling confident and capable in both formal and informal situations.
