About Callum

I’m Callum, a first-class Law and Politics student at the University of Manchester. I achieved an A in A-Level Criminology myself and have over two years of tutoring experience.

Because I have studied the qualification, I understand some of the areas students commonly find difficult — from remembering large amounts of content and criminological theories to knowing how much detail is required for different assessment criteria.

I aim to make my lessons supportive and approachable while still challenging students to improve. There is never any pressure to already know the answer, and I encourage students to ask questions whenever something does not make sense. We can slow down and revisit the foundations of a topic or, for students already achieving highly, focus on developing the precision and detail needed for the top marks.

Every lesson is prepared around the individual student. I can help with specific areas of the course, revision and recall, exam technique, practice questions or provide structured tuition across the qualification.

My university studies in Law and Politics also mean that I continue to study many issues closely connected to Criminology, particularly criminal law, the justice system, government and the relationship between law and society.

My aim is not simply to help students remember more content, but to help them understand Criminology, become more confident in their own ability and know exactly how to demonstrate their knowledge in assessments.

About the lesson

My approach to Criminology tutoring is focused on making the course straightforward, engaging and, most importantly, manageable. There can be a lot to remember across the different units, so I break larger topics into clear sections and use questioning, retrieval activities, real-world examples and regular exam practice to make sure students genuinely understand the content rather than simply memorising it.

Having studied Criminology myself, I understand the importance of knowing exactly what the assessment is asking you to do. I help students with both their controlled assessment and examined units, including understanding assessment criteria, developing detailed answers and applying relevant theories, campaigns, cases and examples.

My Law and Politics degree also complements Criminology particularly well. I can provide students with a deeper understanding of areas involving the criminal justice system, criminal law, courts, policing and how laws are created and applied.

Lessons are typically one hour long and are individually prepared around the student’s current ability and goals. We might work through a difficult topic, revisit weaker areas, practise exam questions, test key terminology or focus specifically on assessment technique.

My lessons are primarily aimed at Level 3 Criminology students aged 16–18 studying the Diploma. Whether you are struggling with the course or aiming for the highest grades, lessons will be tailored to help you make measurable progress.
