About Laurel
My daily life revolves around the violin, building on a foundation of 13 years of performance and instruction. I teach students ranging from beginners to advanced players, having mentored 486 students throughout my career.
My instruction covers essential skills like shifting positions, double stops, and complex intonation. I also focus heavily on spiccato and staccato bowing to help students master their technique.
I guide pupils through classical repertoire and rigorous grade exam prep for ABRSM or Trinity boards. My work emphasizes tone production and nuanced vibrato, ensuring each student develops a solid technical base. It feels rewarding to see my students grasp difficult concepts and gain confidence in their playing. I enjoy seeing that progress unfold as we work through the repertoire together.

Many students arrive feeling frustrated by inconsistent bowing or shaky intonation, and I confess that these challenges are entirely common. A diagnostic assessment serves as our starting point before setting the practice plan for your specific musical path. My Master of Music degree from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music provides the lens through which I evaluate your current technique. We will identify the root of your technical hurdles so you stop fighting the instrument and start playing with ease.
Having spent 13 years in the studio, I know exactly which exercises provide the fastest routes to improvement. We treat every bar of music as a chance to refine your spiccato or refine your shifts between positions. My goal is for you to leave our time together with a clearer understanding of your instrument. I truly enjoy the process of solving these musical puzzles alongside my students.
