About John

Having attended the University of Cambridge to study both their undergraduate and Masters courses in mathematics, I have great experience not only with high level mathematics, but also have experience in tutoring mathematics to students of various ages, with great success. My first ever tutee was attempting to achieve a grade 6 and ultimately attained a grade 8, even whilst studying at a failing school! (the same school I myself attended) I know what it is like to lack guidance in certain areas. I have had to teach myself one of my A Levels and also teach myself how to pass the STEP exams, (Cambridge's maths entrance exams) because none of my teachers were able to teach me. Because of this, I am motivated to provide help to students who need a little extra guidance to achieve their goals, and those who have nobody else to turn to.

About the lesson

Lessons will typically last for an hour, and will consist of a two-way conversation about material that is proving difficult. The student will be walked through any topics they are unsure on, can ask (and answer) questions, and can be given constructive feedback on how to improve, and tasks to accomplish this. I have experience tutoring with this approach and it works well, students are engaged and encouraged to think, rather than just being lectured to, or being given routine tasks not tailored to them and their needs. Students can be any age, and I am able to tutor mathematics at all levels up to and including A Level and university entrance exams. (such as STEP) I can also tutor certain university topics, mostly in applied mathematics, however the range of my abilities is not exhaustive as mathematics is a highly diverse field of study that no mathematician can learn in its entirety.

Perfect!
