Masters of Psychology Student providing assistance to Highschool/ VCE/ Undergraduate students in and around Melbourne.

Methodology

I believe that students guide their own learning; I cannot take the material and make you magically learn it. As such, I base my teachings in a collaborative nature - Students should come geared with questions and an inquisitive mind. We will work together to tackle difficult questions and ensure that by the end of it you have a clear understanding.

Background

I am a current Masters of Psychology (Educational and Developmental) student at ACU. I have extensive experience in the mental health field, specifically within behavioural schools and in disability. I am passionate about academia and take an actualization approach, meaning I believe that, with assistance when necessary, everyone can reach their full potential. I wish to share the knowledge I have acquired through my studies and work with others and share my passion for study and help you achieve the best!

Work/ Volunteering / Professional development

Deakin University – Peer Mentorship (2015)

Involved aiding in the transition and integration of high school graduates into the university environment. It was necessary to provide a solid base of communication and support for the new students to rely on. Knowledge of surrounding and available resources and facilities was necessary to link new students when needed.

South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault (SECASA) – Peer Educator for Respect, Connect and Protect program (February 2016 – July 2016).

I volunteered as a peer educator for the Respect, Connect, and Protect school program. Involved running workshops with year 7-10 students across Victoria with the aim of addressing topics of appropriate sexual conduct, understanding and challenging views of masculinity and effective and non-violent ways to relate to self and others.

Kamaruka Education Centre – Teacher’s Aide (July 2016 – Present)

Kamaruka was established to cater for a growing number of boys whose needs cannot be accommodated in the mainstream classroom. While the program is designed for boys with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), several boys with low self-esteem, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), intellection impairments and general deviant behaviour benefited from the program. My role consists of assisting teachers and relevant support workers in the administration of academic classes and behavioural support plans. Responsibilities often include taking students with complex needs for one-on-one academic activities, following through with behaviour change strategies, general administration and management of medication.

E. motion 21 – Volunteer (November 2016 – January 2018)

Organization that provides Australian-first, innovative dance and fitness programs for children and young adults with Down syndrome. Through performance-based activates and community engagements, E. motion 21 aims to enhance lives and change perceptions of Down syndrome within society. My role as a volunteer involved ensuring participants understand and engage in a class by providing a solid basis for communication between the teacher and student, as well as making sure participants are having fun!

Interchange Inner East – Disability support worker (September 2017 – Present)

Interchange Inner East provides families of children and young adults with disability choices and options for recreation and community activities, respite and support. My roles as a disability support worker involve the provision of care and support to children and young adults with physical and mental disabilities and respite to families and carers responsible for those with a disability.
