Walt’s strength lies in a passion for problem solving and a curiosity for exploration. I often hear about the collaborative environment of Walt’s teaching style. They’re not interested in handing out answers or restricting creative solutions, they are more invested in building a learning environment where students have the opportunity to think critically and find both conventional and unconventional solutions. When met with a problem, Walt will work with students to understand it fully and play an active supportive role. In my experience, the worst thing a teacher can be is dispassionate and passive, Walt is far from either. I enjoy our debates and discussions and the openness to possibilities that they bring to the table. The outcome of these values is not just an ability to solve problems in a text book, but rather a working knowledge of arithmetic’s tools that can be used to ponder and solve future conundrums.
