About Tom
I'm a former University of Melbourne tutor with a PhD in maths. I also have 5 years of private one-on-one tutoring experience. I offer tutoring both in-person and online.
I love talking about maths and helping students achieve all of their math-related goals. As someone who has studied maths for almost 10 years, I know that it can be quite (or very) challenging at times. I have a lot of experience with dealing with these challenges that I like to pass on to my students so that they can be confident with learning mathematics and hopefully even enjoy the process.

I use a student-led, empathetic approach to tutoring, creating a safe environment for students to ask questions, offer their ideas and, most importantly, make mistakes!
I'm passionate about mathematics and flexible in how I teach things. I like to work out how the student learns best and let them guide the tutoring sessions. Rather than lecturing or solving their problems for them, I encourage the student to engage with the material and share their understanding with me. In this way, I can quickly pinpoint the thing they're having trouble with and help them overcome it.
