I like to first get an understanding of what the student is having trouble with, then I try to assess what they has done with the equation and if they have made an error. If they have not, I give them positive reinforcement by encouraging them and telling them they succeeded. If the student does not get the question correct, I calmly give them a basic idea of what they did wrong and what they need help doing. If they still do not understand, I go more in depth little by little in my explanation until they have enough information to answer the problem. After that, I positively encourage them and we continue to the next equation.
