About Nayonika

Hi, I’m Nayonika!

If you’re looking for a tutor who remembers what it feels like to stare at a question and think, “I genuinely have no idea where to start” that’s me!

I’ve been on the student side of the desk, and that experience is a huge part of how I tutor today. I’ve been tutoring for 2+ years and have worked with students with different learning styles, confidence levels, and academic goals.

My own grades in Functions, Advanced Functions, and Calculus have consistently been in the high 80s and 90s, and I also have experience tutoring Grade 11–12 Physics.

But good grades alone don’t make someone a good tutor. What matters to me is being able to take a complicated concept and explain it in a way that makes a student go:
“Ohhh, THAT’S what they meant!”

I’m patient, approachable, and I never want a student to feel embarrassed about asking a question. If we need to go back to the basics, we go back to the basics. If a textbook explanation doesn’t make sense, we find another way whether that means drawing it out, using a real-life

My Teaching Approach
- I’ve been a student myself, so I understand that sometimes a topic can feel difficult not because it is impossible, but because it wasn’t explained in a way that made sense to you. That is a big part of how I approach tutoring. I try to put myself in my student’s shoes and think about what I would have needed when I was learning the same concept.
- I have been tutoring for 2+ years, and my methodology is centered around building understanding from the basics rather than relying on memorization or rote learning. I break concepts down into smaller, easier pieces and gradually build toward more advanced problems. I also use creative explanations, drawings, visual examples, and real-life situations whenever possible to make concepts easier to understand and remember.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like
- I like starting each session with a little conversation or icebreaker so the student feels comfortable and we can get into the lesson naturally. I then check whether they have any upcoming tests, quizzes, assignments, or deadlines that should be prioritized.
- From there, the lesson is based on what the student actually needs. We might work through something they recently learned in class, complete homework, prepare for an upcoming assessment, practice additional questions, or focus on a concept they have been struggling with.
- Rather than immediately jumping into the hardest question, I first ask the student to explain what they are finding difficult.
- This helps me identify where the gap actually is. We then go back to the necessary foundations and build the concept step-by-step until the student is comfortable applying it to more challenging questions.
- I make sure the student is actively involved throughout the lesson rather than simply watching me solve problems. I encourage them to explain their thinking, ask questions, attempt problems themselves, and learn from mistakes.
- At the end of each session, we review what we covered, make sure their questions and doubts have been addressed, and I may suggest a few practice questions or areas to review before the next session. I always like ending on a positive note so the student leaves feeling more confident than when they arrived.

What Sets Me Apart
- I don’t tutor from a purely textbook perspective. I tutor from the perspective of someone who has recently been a student too. I understand how overwhelming a new topic can feel and how important it is to have someone explain it patiently without making you feel like you should already know everything.
- My goal is not just to help students get through one assignment or test. I want them to understand the foundation behind the concept, develop their own problem-solving skills, and eventually feel confident tackling questions without needing someone beside them.

Who I Tutor
- I tutor Math students of all grades, with a particular focus on Functions, Advanced Functions, and Calculus, where my personal grades have consistently been in the high 80s and 90s. - I also offer tutoring for Grade 11 and Grade 12 Physics.
- My lessons can be adapted for students who are struggling with foundational concepts, looking to improve their grades, preparing for tests and exams, need help keeping up with schoolwork, or simply want extra practice and a stronger understanding of the subject.
- Whether you need help with one difficult topic or want ongoing support throughout the school year, I aim to make every session comfortable, interactive, and genuinely useful.
