My Methodology for teaching is built upon some crucial fundamentals,I believe the process of learning entails a lot more than what is has been traditionally encouraged by academic institutions and more research and funding needs to be put set aside to better understand the complexis of what learning fully entails.
In agreeing in completely with "Maslow's' Hierarchy of Needs" (concealed information)
When in a teaching scenario the atmosphere you as the teacher create will set the tone to and or closed communication if the teacher and the students are not comfortable with each other from a get go there will be barrier in place that will impede growth and development. A nice warm smile, not being critical of student mistakes, patience and trying to have the student explain to you their approach to an answer to strengthen teacher/student familiarity and a growth environment when going about learning subject material.
encourage flexible & critical thinking and most importantly curiosity.
There is rarely a right or wrong answer, most f the time that is subjective to the context of what is being learnt. Yes, in an exam the answers will often be black or white, but there are many questions that can be up for interpretation and the journey of examining these various pathways encourages a flexible and critical mindset that can be applied in a range of future academic or practical uses.
An example of this is a lesson I taught to grade, 5/6 Students regarding capacity. Looking and different shaped containers and asking the students which container would hold more sand based on appearance. They soon learnt that these containers had depth and volume despite the shape the answers were different. (Allowing them to also use a variety of individual learning techniques to establish an important idea.)
A very simple science introduction lessons to captivate and engage student curiosity I used teaching a science lesson was getting a big bucket of water and 3 cans of soft drink (Sugar, No sugar, and reduced sugar) They all had the same weight, I asked for student predictions and then dropped the cans into the bucket of water. The can with the Sugar sunk to the bottom the sugar free floated and the reduced sugar can bobbed away then the topic was unpacked after the observation (data) was collated.
Assessment.
Assessment I gather through occasional testing (it's a necessity) Observation, following how the students are connecting with the subject material, communication and knowing when to push the student out of it's comfort zone slowly in a scaffolding approach where we get to where we face we challenge and we tackle that challenge together.
Overall my methodology branches right of my philosophical views of education, we need to build thinkers, problem solvers and work together, we can always adapt content for the learner but more content the doesn't work is just a waste of content and leads to frustration.
