About Kirtik

I am a Mathematical Physics PhD student at the University of Melbourne and a UNSW graduate with a Bachelor of Advanced Mathematics, majoring in Pure Mathematics. I graduated with First Class Honours and a 92 WAM.

I have experience teaching mathematics at both university and high school level. At the University of Melbourne, I have tutored Calculus 2, teaching university classes and helping students build confidence with calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and problem-solving. At UNSW, I worked in the Mathematics Drop-in Centre, where I helped undergraduate students one-on-one across a wide range of first-year mathematics topics.

I have also privately tutored first/second-year university mathematics, as well as high school students studying Mathematics Extension 1 and Extension 2 (3U/4U).

More than anything, I absolutely love mathematics, and I love helping students understand ideas that previously felt difficult or inaccessible. One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring for me is seeing a concept suddenly click.

My goal is not simply to show students how to get the right answer, but to help them understand why the mathematics works. I enjoy working through difficult problems together, developing mathematical intuition, and helping students become more confident and independent problem-solvers.

I know that different students understand mathematics in different ways, so I adapt my explanations and teaching style to the individual. Mathematics does not need to feel incomprehensible — often, the right explanation can completely change the way a student sees a subject.

My lessons are centred around understanding mathematics by doing mathematics. Rather than spending most of the lesson lecturing, I prefer to work through problems together, using them to uncover the underlying concepts, develop intuition, and identify exactly where difficulties are coming from.

I want students to understand why a method works, not just memorise the steps needed to get an answer. Once the underlying idea becomes clear, a whole range of seemingly different problems often becomes much easier.

Every student thinks differently, so I adapt my explanations and the pace of the lesson to the individual. Depending on what you need, we can work through course content from the ground up, tackle difficult tutorial or exam-style problems, develop proof-writing and problem-solving skills, or focus on preparing for assessments.

Lessons are typically 1–2 hours and are available for HSC Mathematics Extension 1 and Extension 2 (3U/4U) as well as university mathematics, from first-year subjects such as calculus and linear algebra through to more advanced and proof-based mathematics.

My aim is for you to leave each lesson not only able to solve the problems we worked on, but with a clearer understanding of the mathematics and greater confidence tackling new problems independently.
