About Kian
Hi, my name's Kian, I'm from Brighton and I'm an MSci Mathematics graduate from Imperial College London. I've been tutoring and teaching mathematics for 2 and a half years, helping students prepare for their university maths entrance exams, and teaching them how to think like university mathematicians. I love mathematics and I really enjoy sharing my passion for it with my students - I hope to inspire them to pursue mathematics for themselves!

I was a Maths Circle Leader for Axiom Maths at Imperial College London Mathematics School, between March 2023 and July 2025. The goal of this programme is to introduce secondary-school students to novel problem-solving techniques in order to help them think more like university mathematicians. I was also a tutor at Problem Solving Matters in the Summer of 2024, during which I helped year 12 students prepare for mathematics entrance exams such as TMUA, STEP, and MAT. I have also privately tutored A-Level maths, and I am highly familiar with the syllabus, particularly the Edexcel exam board, having studied it thoroughly during my own A-Level years and spending time since then understanding its intricacies. Furthermore, I sat entrance exams/competition papers myself, having done the MAT in order to get into Imperial, and taking the AEA in which I achieved a merit. I also took the Senior Maths Challenge in Years 12 and 13, achieving a Gold Award in both years, and competing in 2 rounds of the British Mathematical Olympiad in Year 13. My teaching methodology focuses on achieving deep understanding of material, rather than surface-level memorisation techniques. I find that concentrating on the latter causes students to be thrown off by small discrepancies between exam questions. Once a student understands the "why" behind a concept, they can apply it to a whole range of problems. Typical lessons will last an hour, and are targeted towards GCSE/A-Level students, anyone preparing to take the MAT/STEP/TMUA, or competitions such as SMC.

Kian is an excellent tutor.
