About Achuma
I am a young and innovative Computational and Applied Mathematics Honours student. I currently hold a BSc Mathematics of
Finance Degree at the University of the Witwatersrand. During my studies, I developed special interest in the finance industry, how
to model investment portfolios, how the economy operates, financial products and stock markets. My goal is to acquire necessary
skills needed to mathematically model problems and find optimal solutions. Hence my choice in degree and why I chose to work
on my research proposal titled ’Compressed Sensing in Portfolio Optimisation’. This is in hope that I’m able to pursue my career as
an Analyst in the near future. I have relevant experience as I have tutored both online and face to face.

Start with what the student knows, raise their confidence and give them time to be comfortable before approaching difficult questions. Be patient when the students is struggling to grasp concepts, always give students work for home that is relevant to what you covered on the day. Always allow breaks in between, let the student go through some of the examples and give them a chance to explain what they are doing and why while I watch.
I tend to give rewards or celebrate small achievements like understanding a difficult section (from mini tests i set) with snacks and offering more of my time (adding extra time with our lessons, about 30 minutes or more or by adding extra lessons for free especially when close to tests or exams)
