Whenever I give lessons, I always make sure to tailor the content of those lessons around the student, to try and make the most out of each lesson. It is important that any lesson covers a topic with which a student has found difficult. A lesson will generally follow this outline: warm-up exercises, teaching of the lesson's topic, going through worked examples together, some problems for you to try, and finally a summary discussion.
Warm-up exercises are great for preparing the brain to start doing some maths, and also helps me to identify any topic areas which may be useful to cover in future lessons. The warm-up exercises also give an opportunity to recap on topics from previous lessons. I am also more than willing to take requests of topics to cover in a lesson if a student has identified areas they feel they struggle with.
If requested, I am able to give additional work (such as problem worksheets) for outside of the tutoring sessions. While I do not consider this to be compulsory, I would encourage any students to do these worksheets as they help to test understanding of topics and to consolidate knowledge.
