About Shilpa

Hi, I’m Shilpa, and I tutor math for students in Grades 2–6 in South East Melbourne.

I’ve spent the past 24 months homeschooling my 8-year-old child, helping him gain confidence in math, build a strong understanding of core concepts, and progress to higher-level topics from Grades 4 and 5.

Along the way, I discovered that I genuinely enjoy teaching math and helping children grasp fundamental ideas clearly and confidently.

This experience shaped my calm, patient, and flexible approach, which I now bring to tutoring students in Grades 2–6.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering, and have spent over a decade working as a senior software engineer.

About the lesson

I use a structured approach spread across the year, allowing children to work through topics at a comfortable pace. Each lesson builds on the last, with time to revisit earlier ideas so concepts really sink in.

Key aspects of my approach are:

* Time to explore ideas instead of rushing ahead
* Homework that reinforces lessons and helps practice concepts

* A calm, low-pressure learning environment

Results I’ve seen —

Homeschooling my 8 year old has shown me how my approach supports steady progress and lasting understanding. He’s become more confident, knowledgeable, and curious, and is able to tackle new concepts by building on fundamentals rather than memorisation.

While in second-grade in 2025, my son gained a strong understanding of Grades 2 & 3 maths, and is now confidently working through higher-level concepts from Grades 4 and 5, including fractions & decimals. Over this time, he has developed strong mental maths skills, better number sense, and increased confidence when approaching new topics.

This experience informs the way I tutor your child, helping them develop understanding and confidence that lasts.
