About Ashley
Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile! I’m Ashley Makley, an accountant with an MBA and more than 13 years of experience in bookkeeping, payroll, and financial reporting. I’ve spent my career helping individuals, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations understand their numbers and use them to make confident decisions.
I have worked in CPA firms, including Holbrook & Manter, CPAs and Hammerman, Graf, Hughes & Co., Inc. CPAs, where I managed full-cycle accounting, month-end and year-end closes, and payroll for more than 30 clients. I also served as an accountant for a nonprofit organization and have run my own accounting and administration practice since 2013. Along the way, I have onboarded many new clients, which means I’m used to explaining unfamiliar financial concepts in clear, plain language and meeting people where they are.
My education includes a Master of Business Administration from Purdue University Global, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Kaplan University, and an Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies from Johnson & Wales University. I hold several professional credentials, including QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Advanced, Intuit Bookkeeping, Bill.com, and Gusto Payroll certifications, and I am a commissioned Notary Public.
Outside of work, I am committed to my community. I was honored to be named a Community Gem by the Dayton Daily News in June 2026, and I recently completed the Kettering Leadership Academy (Class of 2025-2026), where I worked with local professionals on a community solution.
I’m new to formal tutoring, but I bring real-world expertise, patience, and a genuine desire to help others succeed. I believe in treating people the way I want to be treated and always doing the right thing, and I’ll bring that same respect and honesty to every lesson. I look forward to helping you build skills and confidence in accounting!

A Typical Lesson Plan
Lessons are typically 60 minutes and adjusted to your goals.
1. Check-in (5 min): We review what’s going well, what’s confusing, and any upcoming deadlines or exams.
2. Review (10 min): We revisit the last session’s material or homework to make sure it stuck.
3. New concept (15 min): I introduce the topic with a simple explanation and an example.
4. Guided practice (20 min): We work through problems or software exercises together, and I step back as you gain confidence.
5. Wrap-up (10 min): We summarize key takeaways, and I assign short practice work and a plan for next time.
What Sets Me Apart
*Real-world experience. I’ve worked in CPA firms, in nonprofit finance, and in my own bookkeeping practice, so I can tell you not just what the textbook says but how it plays out for actual businesses.
*Mentoring background. I enjoy helping people build confidence and skills, including through my work with Kettering Leadership Academy and in guiding clients and colleagues.
*Software and certification expertise. I hold QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Advanced, Bill.com, and Gusto Payroll certifications and know ADP and Paychex payroll systems, which is helpful if you’re preparing for a certification or a job.
*MBA-level perspective. I understand accounting as a tool for business decisions, not just compliance.
*Honesty. I’m upfront that I’m new to formal tutoring. What I bring is deep subject knowledge, patience, and a commitment to always doing the right thing by my students.
Who My Lessons Are For
*College and community college students in introductory financial or managerial accounting and business courses
*Career changers and aspiring bookkeepers who want practical, job-ready skills
*Small business owners and nonprofit staff or board members who want to understand their books and financial statements
*Learners preparing for QuickBooks Online certifications (Bookkeeping or ProAdvisor)
*Anyone who needs help with payroll basics, sales tax, reconciliations, or year-end close
*Beginners to intermediate learners. I’m not currently tutoring advanced CPA exam content.
