About Nathan
Hi, I’m Nathan, a medical student at Hull York Medical School with a strong passion for Biology. I chose to study medicine because I’ve always been interested in understanding how the body works and applying science in a meaningful, real-world way.
I want to teach because I genuinely enjoy helping others understand topics that may initially seem difficult or overwhelming. I know from experience that the right explanation can make a big difference, and I find it really rewarding to see students grow in both confidence and ability over time.
Having recently gone through GCSEs and A-Levels myself, I understand the challenges students face and what is needed to succeed in exams. My aim is to support students not just in improving their grades, but in building confidence and developing a more positive approach to learning

My approach to tutoring is student-centred, focusing on building both understanding and confidence. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as this is key to effective learning.
I structure lessons around the individual student's needs, first identifying areas they find challenging before breaking them down into clear, manageable steps. For English, this may include reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, writing skills and exam technique. I use a combination of explanations, guided practice, active recall and exam-style questions to reinforce learning.
I regularly check understanding throughout the lesson and adapt my teaching style to suit each student's pace and learning preferences. I aim to make lessons engaging while helping students develop the confidence and skills to work independently.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes long, which gives enough time to cover content thoroughly while keeping students engaged. However, I can be flexible depending on the student's needs.
I am currently a medical student at Hull York Medical School. Through my studies, I have developed strong communication skills and experience in breaking down complex information into clear, manageable steps.
My English lessons are aimed at younger students preparing for 7+, 11+ and 13+ exams, particularly those looking to improve their reading comprehension, literacy skills, confidence and exam technique.
