I am a Medical University student which has a lot of experience in teaching students with lower ability in particular subjects: Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. I have had a lot of experience in my local school as a peer mentor and tutor for mathematics. This means I have had a lot of of experience helping children aged between 11- 18 improve academically as well as being a social column that they can rely on. Additionally I also volunteer at KEEN London, a charity where children with mental disabilities aged between 4-18 come every Sunday in order to try socialise (most children are autistic) and thus I can communicate well with difficult situations and explain things very well.
For A-Level mathematics I will be able to support students with C1, C2, C3, C4, S1, S2, S3, M1 and FP1.
My past experience
As mentioned before I have taught fellow students at my school. During year 12 (2012-2013), I have helped 2 students studying AS level from failing their exams to significantly improving to B grades for January exams and having 93% in their May exams with only 4 hours a week.
Otherwise, I was a Science Ambassador in my school, which means I get to help all the revision classes from year 7 to year 11. I am also the leader of the homework club for year 7 and a frequent helper as well as organiser of this club.
My Tutoring Approach
Preferably I like to teach the student online as I am currently at university and opening windows are a bit limited, plus it saves us both from travelling and be within the comfort of our own homes.
To start with, I would give the student a test on what they are required to know for the qualification they are supposed to take and establish what they might be insecure on. After the insecurities have been settled, I will start by giving them worksheets and going through examples as well as them following them on their own. I believe in teaching principles and not spoon-feeding answers as the students will be better prepared as an individual. But, practice makes perfect!
